Yogi
Bear's Jellystone
Park Hosts Camp Sunshine
Positive
experience prompts Jellystone franchisees to adopt Camp Sunshine
as national charity
(
Cincinnati, OH ) – In the fall of 2005, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park
Camp-Resort in Warrens , WI , partnered with Camp Sunshine , hosting
children with life threatening illnesses and their families. The
Warrens location was the first Jellystone Park , a Leisure Systems,
Inc. franchisee, to partner with the charitable program.
Branded
as Camp Sunshine Wisconsin , the successful inaugural session in
September treated 13 families to interactive day camps run by volunteers;
festivities such as a talent show, costume party and wishboat candle
lighting ceremony; and wet, wild rides on the new Yogi Bear's Water
Zone. The Jellystone Park in Warrens will again hold two 2006 sessions
on April 23-28 and October 15-20 that will serve families coping
with childhood cancer.
Because
of the wonderful experience the Warrens Park had with Camp Sunshine
, the franchisees of the Yogi Bear's Jellystone Parks have adopted
Camp Sunshine as their national charity. As part of the partnership,
franchisees will make financial contributions to support the Camp's
activities. In addition, various Jellystone Parks Camp-Resorts will
host Camp Sunshine at their parks.
“We're
proud that our Jellystone Park in Warrens has taken a leadership
role in helping Camp Sunshine expand its program throughout the
country,” said Rob Schutter, president of Leisure Systems, Inc .
“ This charitable partnership emphasizes Leisure System's mission
to create a wonderful and memorable experience for families and
we look forward to supporting Camp Sunshine 's efforts in the future."
Founded
in 1984 by Larry and Anna Gould in Casco , Maine , Camp Sunshine
is a free, weeklong retreat that allows families to connect with
and support other families coping with a critical illness. Since
its inception, Camp Sunshine has served more than 5,600 families
and more than 17,000 family members from around the world. The long-term
goal is to increase Camp Sunshine locations so any family with an
ill child can be within driving distance of a life-changing experience.
The Camp has the distinction of being one of the only programs in
the nation that addresses the impact of a life-threatening illness
on every member of the family – from the ill child to the grandparents.
